Newly Admitted Undergraduate Students

Welcome to the Triton Family!  Whether you are an incoming first-year or transfer student, we are here to support you at the Black Resource Center.  Please click through the drawers below for information that will help inform your decision to choose UC San Diego, and support you throughout the transition process.

Prior to Accepting Your Offer

  • Make sure that you attend UC San Diego's Triton Day events!  These events will give you an all-access look at UC San Diego with presentations and activities catered specifically for newly admitted students.
    • Black Resource Center staff will be available to answer your questions at our information booth as well as through our community events.
  • Students will receive an invitation the Black Student Union's Annual Overnight Program.  This program provides newly admitted students with a one of a kind, free opportunity to experience life as a UC San Diego student so be sure to stay up to date on your emails!

Remember that the deadline to Accept Your Offer is May 1st for First-Year Students and June 1st for Transfer Students.  If you have questions about the process, be sure to contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Black Alumni Scholarship Fund

The UC San Diego Black Alumni Scholarship Program provides financial, academic and social support to over 150 Black students at UCSD. This year BASF will offer more than 50 scholarships to incoming first year students. This unique, competitive scholarship is offered to applicants who have been admitted to UCSD and engaged in leadership or service in their community, church and/or school. African Black Diaspora Living Learning Community (ABDLLC)

Are you considering living on-campus? We encourage you to consider living in the African Black Diaspora Living Learning Community (ABDLLC)!  Incoming students (both first year and transfer) will have an opportunity to apply during the housing contract phase.  

The mission of the ABDLLC is to establish an environment of personal and academic excellence through the affirmation and celebration of Blackness in its various expressions. Learn more about the ABDLLC on our Black Housing page.

Black Diaspora and African-American Studies

Black Family Orientation

Every year, the Black Resource Center hosts an orientation for new Black first-year and transfer students called the Black Family Orientation.  This event is designed for new students and their families to learn more about the resources available to Black students at UC San Diego as well as recipes for a successful UC San Diego career.  Be sure to register to attend to make sure you do not miss out on valuable information as well as an opportunity to build community from day 1 of your UC San Diego career.  For more information please contact JKHenderson@ucsd.edu.

Preparing for Your First Quarter

Peer Guidance Program

In addition to the Black Family Orientation, the Black Resource Center has a Peer Guidance Program which is a program that pairs new students with a Peer Guidance Leader that helps guide them toward success throughout their first year at UC San Diego.  The Peer Guidance Program hosts various events to get students connected within community, and ensure students are prepared to succeed academically at UC San Diego.

Stay Connected

  • Consider getting involved with one of our affiliated student organizations such as the Black Student Union (BSU) or the African Student Association (ASA).
  • Register for the Black Resource Center's e-newsletter which comes out once a week on Thursdays.  
    • Registering for the e-news ensures that you will be up to date on various programs and activities put on by our center that go on throughout the academic year.
